Meet Santiago Rodriguez of StayPlus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Santiago Rodriguez.

Santiago, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.

I began StayPlus in 2017, but it didn’t become my full-time profession until a few months later, when I resigned being an employee to commit myself full-time to my business and serving my clients. The inspiration to go out on my own came in 2016 when I earned my real estate license. Through trial and error in real estate, I came up with the idea to upload my listing on Airbnb for my foreign clients, this way they could earn money while being away and would avoid, the sometimes, long wait which along with selling a house.
For my first inquiry on Airbnb, we received a reservation within 12 hours, until this day, that home has a high occupancy rate. I started promoting myself as a host and now our team of seven manages over 40 properties around Miami, marketing each listing on multiple platforms such as Airbnb,, Vrbo, Tripadvisor, and others.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?

It definitely has not been a smooth road, growth comes with a lot of responsibility and it isn’t always glamorous. Our operations and organization are in a fundamental development stage right now because we are going fast. My biggest struggles have been able to provide the most hotel-like service matched with the autonomy that an Airbnb/Home sharing property brings. I believe everyone has different needs but we take pride in making all of our guests feel at home.

Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about your work?

We’re experts in short-term rental management; we’re known to be the people that get your place rented and delivers a high-quality service in order to maintain a steady occupancy throughout the year while, of course, maintaining the condition of the property. What makes me the proudest of my company are the guest reviews, when they remember the little details that we provide them to make their lives easier, that’s what keeps us going. I believe we’re different from the other host/managers in Miami because we focus on multiple areas of Miami, always delivering high-quality services round the clock to both property owners and guests.

I believe that everyone that comes into your life has a role to play, I’m proud to call this a family business and everyone in my immediate family has helped and support me tremendously in this journey, I’d have to thank my clients for trusting in my team and me, also all of my previous and current guests that come and leave with a smile in their faces, wanting to come back. My colleagues at Douglas Elliman deserve credit for this. Also, my school/university teachers, close friends, and everyone that has worked with me in the past in the real estate industry.
